Frequently Asked Questions / FAQs

A visa is a document issued by a competent authority of Vietnam, allowing foreigners to enter Vietnam. Applying for a visa is the first thing you need to do to enter a country (except for visa-exempt countries).

With an e-visa, you need to fill out an online application form through a company or organization that provides e-visa services, then you will receive a visa approval letter via email.

An e-visa is a type of visa issued online before the trip, foreigners only need to print the visa and present it upon entry.

Meanwhile, visa on arrival requires foreigners to have an invitation letter from a sponsor in Vietnam, then have the visa affixed at the check-in counter upon arrival at the airport.

An e-visa is quick, self-made and suitable for short stays; a visa on arrival is more flexible in terms of duration and visa type, but requires support from the company and takes more steps.

To complete the online registration, you will need to provide the following information:

  1. Basic information
    • Your contact information
    • E-visa application information
  2. Applicant information
    • Applicant's portrait photo

The biggest difference between a single-entry and multiple-entry visa is the number of times you are allowed to enter the country:

  • A single-entry visa only allows you to enter Vietnam once. Once you have left Vietnam, you must apply for a new visa to re-enter Vietnam.
  • A multiple-entry visa allows you to enter and exit Vietnam freely any number of times during the visa's validity period.

Most foreign nationals need a visa to enter Vietnam, unless they are eligible for a visa exemption under Vietnam's bilateral or unilateral policies. The visa exemption period and conditions vary by nationality. Foreigners who are not eligible for a visa exemption or who are staying beyond the exemption period will need to apply for an appropriate visa before coming to Vietnam:

  1. Countries exempted from visas when entering Vietnam (as of 2025):
    • Vietnam exempts bilateral visas for citizens of 13 countries
    • Vietnam exempts bilateral visas for citizens of 16 countries.
  2. Countries with restrictions or difficulties in obtaining visas to Vietnam:
    • Middle East region: Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Yemen, Palestine, Qatar, Syria.
    • South Asia region: India, Bhutan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal.
    • Africa region: Many countries in this region.
  3. Cases of being banned from entering Vietnam:
    • Violating Vietnamese law during the previous entry.
    • Being deported or banned from entering in the past.
    • Not meeting the conditions for entry, such as not having a valid passport or not being able to clearly demonstrate the purpose of entry.
