Tuesday, 5/8/2025, 14:54 (UTC+07:00)
Vietnam e-visa is the type of visa that is preferred by most visitors to Vietnam because of its convenience, cost savings and validity of up to 90 days. The process of completing a Vietnam e-visa application usually takes only a few minutes, but any carelessness can lead to a visa refusal, not only wasting money but also ruining the entire trip to Vietnam.

In the article below, we will share with you 7 common mistakes that many applicants have made.
Table of Contents
- ⚠️1. Passport and portrait photo are not qualified
- ⚠️2. Providing incorrect personal information
- ⚠️3. Provide fake residential address in Vietnam
- ⚠️4. Misunderstanding about visa validation date
- ⚠️5. Submit your application while you are in Vietnam
- ⚠️6. Skip the visa application for accompanying children
- ⚠️7. No double check the information on the e-visa
⚠️1. Passport and portrait photo are not qualified
This is the most common mistake that causes your Vietnam e-visa application to be stuck in the government system for too long.
Before applying for an e-visa, applicants need to prepare a passport photo and a recent portrait photo. The photos must be clear, less than 2MB in size, and stored in JPG or JPEG format:
- The portrait photo must be of good quality, taken within the last 6 months, with a simple background, no glasses, no tank top, facing the camera. In particular, you must not crop the photo from the passport page because the photo will not be accepted.
- The passport profile page photo must be of good quality, showing the entire page including all ICAO LINES
✅ Solution: Follow specific passport photo guidelines such as size, resolution, and background color.

⚠️2. Providing incorrect personal information
Applicants often make mistakes in:
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Passport number
- Date of issue of passport
- Passport expiry date
✅ Solution: Double check to make sure all details are in the correct order, spelling, and format:
- Full name must match ICAO line and must not contain special characters.
- Date field must be in DD/MM/YYYY format, not MM/DD/YYYY.
- Passport number: must display full passport number on passport
⚠️3. Provide fake residential address in Vietnam
The Vietnam Immigration Department will check with your Vietnamese host to see if you have made a booking. False declarations may result in visa refusal.

✅ Solution: Please provide correct travel information such as purpose of trip, expected date of entry and exit, and exact port of arrival in Vietnam.
⚠️4. Misunderstanding about visa validation date
A common misconception is that the Vietnam e-visa is valid on the date of entry and the validity will be calculated from that time. Therefore, many people come to Vietnam when their visa is about to expire, shortening their stay and making it almost impossible to extend.
In fact, the e-visa is valid from the date of entry you stated in the application. You cannot enter Vietnam before that date, but must arrive on or after the date of entry stated, so you should not delay entering for too long.
✅ Solution: Make sure your passport is valid for at least 06 months after the intended date of entry into Vietnam.
⚠️5. Submit your application while you are in Vietnam
You can only apply for an e-visa when you are not in Vietnam. Many visitors apply for an e-visa while they are in Vietnam with the intention of getting a same-day visa to stay in Vietnam and their applications are rejected.
✅ Solution: Make sure you apply while you are outside of Vietnam. In case you do not want to wait for a visa for days, you can use our Vietnam urgent visa service to get a visa in the shortest time.

⚠️6. Skip the visa application for accompanying children
When applying for an e-visa, you may see the item: "Accompanying children under 14 years old in the passport (if any)". Please note that this item will be used if the child's name is only in the passport. In case the child has a separate passport, the child must have a separate visa like an adult. Some parents do not know this, so when applying for a visa, they often add the child's name to the same visa application even if the child has a separate passport.
Finally, when the visa is issued, the child's name is written on the parent's visa but is not actually on the parent's passport. This results in your child not having a visa and not being able to board the plane.
✅ Solution: Apply for a visa for the child(ren) if he or she has his or her own passport.
⚠️7. No double check the information on the e-visa
Errors can happen, resulting in incorrect information on your Vietnam e-visa application. You should check all the information carefully when you receive your visa, then you still have time to notify us to reapply for a visa and change your flight as soon as possible. This will be more cost-effective than being refused at the airport on the day of departure and will have less negative consequences.
✅ Solution: Before submitting your e-visa application to us, please carefully review all the information you have provided to ensure its accuracy.
