From November 3, 2025, Vietnam Airlines will charge for excess carry-on baggage at the boarding gate.

Monday, 3/11/2025, 08:46 (UTC+07:00)

Passengers flying Vietnam Airlines will have to pay a fee if their carry-on baggage exceeds the weight or size standards, from 600,000 VND for domestic flights. According to the Rate of excess baggage at the airport, the airline will charge a fee if the passenger's carry-on baggage violates one of the following conditions:

  • Exceeding the maximum weight by 10 kg (for Economy/Premium Economy) or 18 kg (for Business Class).
  • Carry more than the specified number of pieces (one piece and one accessory for Economy Class; two pieces and one accessory for Business Class).
  • Exceeds standard dimensions: 56 x 36 x 23 cm (with luggage) and 40 x 30 x 15 cm (with accessories).

In case the baggage exceeds the standards but is still accepted for transport, the fee will be applied equivalent to a piece of checked baggage, even a bulky piece (if both weight and size exceed). Passengers can pay by credit card right at the gate.

In particular, the airline does not accept excess baggage if this affects the departure time of the flight, and only allows a maximum weight of 10 kg over the regulations.

Vietnam Airlines still maintains the free carry-on baggage allowance standards including:

  • Business Class: two pieces (total weight not exceeding 18 kg) and one accessory.
  • Economy/Premium Economy: one piece (maximum 10 kg) and one accessory. Total weight not to exceed 10 kg.
