I. Vietnam Airlines carry-on baggage

According to the latest VNA carry-on baggage regulations, from May 5, 2025, the airline will adjust the carry-on baggage weight on each flight group as follows:

II. Vietnam Airlines checked baggage

From August 1, 2019, Vietnam Airlines baggage policy will change from weight system to piece system. This helps the airline to unify baggage policy with the majority of member airlines of the SkyTeam airline alliance. Sports equipment requires neat packaging, without sharp corners.

  • Fee

For golf equipment:

    • Passengers with E class tickets or higher or Titanium class cards or higher: FREE 1 golf set with a maximum weight of 23kg (no Dimension limit). If the weight is over 23kg, the passenger must pay an excess weight fee.
    • Passengers outside the above group: Passengers need to pay fees according to Vietnam Airlines baggage regulations.

2. Baby stroller/Wheelchair

According to Vietnam Airlines baggage regulations, baby strollers or wheelchairs, foldable strollers will be transported as checked baggage at NO CHARGE.

3. Bulky luggage

Bulky baggage is a piece of baggage that weighs more than 32kg and/or has a total of 3 dimensions greater than 203cm.

Bulky baggage must be packed neatly, without sharp corners, to avoid affecting the aircraft and other baggage.

For itineraries from/to Europe or Australia, baggage over 32kg will not be accepted for transport. Except in priority cases such as medical care equipment, wheelchairs for disabled people.

  • Packaging requirements
    • Packed in a hard carton box with shockproof material inside to ensure safety during transportation
    • Handlebar rotates along the length of the bicycle
    • Remove and pack parts such as pedals, lights, mirrors, kickstands, etc.
    • Tires must be deflated
    • If the vehicle is not too valuable and the weight does not exceed the allowable limit: It needs to be packed in a 3-layer hard carton
    • If the vehicle is valuable, heavy, and easily deformed by external force: It needs to be packed in a 5-7 layer hard carton
  • Fee

If the weight does not exceed 23kg and the total 3 dimensions do not exceed 203cm:

5. Special baggage placed on passenger seats

For special types of luggage that are fragile, damaged, broken or of high value such as paintings, antique vases, musical instruments, etc., passengers can purchase one or more additional seats next to their seats in the same ticket class.

    • Weight: Not more than 75kg/chair (chair area 40 x 40cm), pressure on chair not more than 0.046kg/cm2.

IV. Restricted baggage

1. Items not allowed on Vietnam Airlines planes in both carry-on and checked baggage

In Vietnam Airlines carry-on and checked baggage, passengers are prohibited from carrying the following items:

  • Explosives and articles containing explosives.
  • Flammable substances in gaseous, liquid or solid form.
  • Oxidizing substances, organic peroxides and related articles.
  • Corrosive, infectious, toxic substances and related articles.
  • Radioactive materials.

2. Items prohibited in carry-on baggage but allowed in checked baggage

The following items are prohibited in Vietnam Airlines carry-on baggage but are allowed in checked baggage:

  • Sharp objects, weapons or items that resemble real weapons such as knives, swords, multi-purpose knives, darts, scissors, axes, etc.
  • Guns, bullets, components of guns, bullets, etc. or items/toys that resemble real weapons and items that resemble them...
